(my second blog post and that)
So your girl has been reading the book of Proverbs in the Bible. Well, technically I’ve finished reading it but I’m going over it again and making a summary – actually it’s more so a mind map. A mind map of things that I feel God is really laying on my heart and scriptures that be standing out to me – you’ve got to love conviction.
I honestly love reading the Bible. As my dear friend Chelsea said to me the other day, “How can the Holy Spirit remind you of what you haven’t read.” I think you need to hear that again: how can the Holy Spirit remind you of what you haven’t read (Chelsea, 2020). Read your Bible people.

Anyway, so I’m just here reading through Proverbs 26 and 27 and I’m just making connections in my head as I do.
Your life reflects your heart.
What’s in your heart will be evident in the way you choose to live your life.
Stay with me here.
You’re going to need to really think. I even have to think carefully as I’m writing this because I don’t even know if this even makes sense.
Self-control
I believe self-control and self-awareness is so important and it even says in Proverbs 25:28 – like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control. This basically means that a lack of self-control is dangerous as you would be susceptible to anything and everything with no form of protection. Furthermore, we also know that self-control is a fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:23).
Relating this back to the heart I believe self-control is key when it comes to guarding your heart. It’s about having the ability to filter what you allow to enter into and have access to the deepest innermost part that forms the core of your being.
What are the desires of your heart?
Are they being influenced by the world and people around you, or by God?
“The desires of men’s hearts are never satisfied and neither are death and destruction”, Proverbs 27:20. Scary innit. The only thing that can truly satisfy us is God as He is the only one who truly knows our heart. He examines and weighs our heart. I believe He uses the situations in our lives to reveal what is actually in our heart.
If the desires of our hearts are not in alignment with what God wants for us we will end up chasing temporary satisfaction that will lead to an insatiable hunger and longing. “When you are full, you turn down the sweetest of honey but to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet”- Proverbs 27:7. This takes us back to the matter of self-control as when God truly satisfies you, you would turn away from things that may seem good but are not what God wants for you – not every good opportunity is a God opportunity.
On the other hand, if you are led by the desires of the flesh and lack self-control, you will blind yourself into thinking you need to take hold of every opportunity that comes your way and essentially endanger yourself.
How can something that is meant to be bitter taste sweet? God forbid. I don’t want to have anything that is not for me. Take it all away till all that’s left is you (if you know you know).
Let the desires of my heart be pleasing to you God.
God I want you to satisfy the desires of my heart.
Don’t allow the desires of the flesh to blind and deceive you. We need to be walking in discernment and sound judgement.
If God was to cross examine your heart right now in this moment what would He find?
Are the desires of your heart a true reflection of God’s will for your life?
To conclude, this was basically just about the interconnection between your heart, your life, self-control and God satisfying you.
